the BOX reception

what a fantastic night. last friday (march 5th) marked the first Downtown Fullerton Art Walk and the opening reception for the BOX: perspectives on living outside. we would like to thank many people for making PÄS an all-out awesome experience that night.

first and foremost, we have major love for Tony Munoz, Tyler Hoad, Adam Dyer, Rich Ramirez and Mark Counts of Breakfast with Jesus. they served some mean pancakes and eggs and made awesome greeters into our gallery space!

we would also like to thank Mark (Spazzkid) and Nate for setting the tempo with their magical beats and SHINE lighting for beautifying our exterior walls and shining the logo on the roof.

and to add to the whole experience, much gratitude to Luis Sanchez and Jesse Gaona for painting live!

and of course all the back-end support from our friends at Epic Church and the front-end eye-candy of our artists: brandy chagolla, ron garrett, jesse gaona, jck hnry, irene, ito, kaplowitz, jesse la tour, ryan mekenian, jason moore, anthony munoz, christie yuri noh, nolia, rich m. ramirez, john sollom, jeff steinwand, mauro toledo… here are some shots from the night.

thanks again to everyone! we enjoyed this night of community, justice and healing through art! hope to see you at all the First Friday Art Walks. bring your friends…

the BOX: perspectives on living outside

in just one week from tonight, Friday March 5th, downtown fullerton will birth its very first Art Walk. we are more than excited to be a part of it. we’ll be hosting the opening of the BOX: perspectives on living outside which will run through April 1, 2010. it entails the work of 16+ artists as they share their perspectives on homelessness through everything from oils to poetry. collage to video. Spazzkid will be bringing pleasure to our ears from 7-9p. and Breakfast with Jesus will be bringing food to our soul (pancakes and eggs). The night, in turn, will bring you out of your box – your comfort zone – and into the BOX.

we will also have a collection box for our brothers and sisters on skid row. if you feel inclined to donate, please consider old books, adult clothes, new socks, new underwear, and toiletries (even female products). your love is appreciated.

52nd GRAMMY Award collateral

it’s been awhile since i posted about anything going on in primate design’s world. seems like PÄS has been hogging the spotlight, while pd has taken the back seat. in many ways that’s true, but that’s how pd operates best — behind the scenes. here are a couple pieces that showed up at the GRAMMY’s this year.

this was inserted into every GRAMMY ticket distributed:

and this ad was in the GRAMMY Awards Program:

if you missed the GRAMMY’s this year, you can catch up at grammy.com and now that they are finished, we have some updating to do for the GRAMMY Museum didactics in the works. stay tuned for that post…

KIDS EXHIBIT reception

the KIDS EXHIBIT is the result of a fantastic Art Night for the children of raymond elementary. 33 of the students made the decision to put their art on display in our gallery. the reception held on saturday, february 13th was a success. it was filled with kids and their parents as well as the principal of raymond and fullerton school district board members. everyone who made it out to see the exhibit thought it was great!

Thanks to the community and all the parents for coming out to support the children’s art. it was a very empowering experience for the kids to see their works up in a gallery and we are grateful to be a part of it. all proceeds from the sold works go to the Raymond School PTA and All the Arts for All the Kids Foundation.

SHUFFLE at Hibbleton

Hibbleton
is the icon for art in fullerton and friday night was confirmation that they are clearly the epicenter for the scene here in downtown. the flavor they exhibit each show derives from a culture i would love to see grow here. SHUFFLE: Interpreting music into visual art, a collaborative playlist consisted of 15 artists. here’s a few pics from the opening reception:

and good friend of PÄS, wendy peng, had a few printmaking goodies to share…

the show is open until march 7th so you can still check it out. if you’re coming out to Downtown Fullerton for the first ever ART WALK on friday, march 5th, you can check it out then.

it’s been awhile since we hit the first saturday at the Artist Village in santa ana. and what a great night it was. it was pretty crowded, however the art was well worth it. here is a glimpse into what we saw…

we started the night at occca (orange county center for contemporary art) and witnessed a fantastic show that dealt with “father material”

we walked around most of the galleries we knew and landed upon a street performance that was pretty fresh. as well as BC Space: Mything in Action features artwork by forty-five artists who exhibited at the gallery over the past four decades and helped advance the reputation of BC Space as a venue for artists engaging in often controversial ideas. here are some shots from Grand Center Art Center:

the PAGE at Chapman University

the PAGE
is a must-see show if you love books arts. it’s in the Guggenheim Gallery on the Chapman campus and is curated by Rachelle W. Chuang (a PÄS workshop facilitator) and Karin Lanzoni.  the show is unique in that it allows you to sit on some really cool designed furniture and thumb through the books. there is also a spread of each book on the wall in “fine-art” fashion. the show is just superb! i took our boys and they loved the seating area.

“The artists’ book is a little known form-genre in which the artist presents his or her ideas in the form of a book. For this survey exhibition, thirty artists from a broad range of studio art practices were asked to submit one page (in the original or poster format) from their artists’ book to mount on the walls of the gallery.  Guest curators Rachelle W. Chuang and Karin Lanzoni selected these artists—painters, photographers, sculptors, graphic designers, printers, performance artists, and book artists—each employing distinctive artistic strategies and techniques.”

the PAGE runs February 1-March 12

The olympic-design-geek that i am, i fell in love and became envious of this project. the students had a visit to london and each designed their own book. fantastic!
